Help files

I dumped some random help files from Wikipedia, but they're not really complete. I'll look into the matter in due course. But we can access Wikipedia for free from the varsity, so one can pick up good tips there. --Slashme 17:38, 21 January 2006 (SAST)

Page cache

A nice tip is to go to the page, and then type "?action=purge" at the end of the URL. This purges the page cache, updating all links, templates, etc. --Slashme 12:25, 23 January 2006 (SAST)

Check out "". A bit brutal, as it removes your recent changes list, but in the case of a move, it might have been a reasonable move. --Slashme 17:04, 23 January 2006 (SAST)

Deleting your talk

The usual practice at Wikipedia is to keep all talk that isn't blatant vandalism, and to archive old talk every now and then. But then, it's your talk, so you can do what you like with it -_- Slashme 16:41, 23 January 2006 (SAST)

Hmm, I'll have to go find out exactly what an interwiki is... (/me does "stupid face") --Slashme 16:45, 23 January 2006 (SAST)

It looks like you need access to the MySQL database to do the interwiki thing. See "". --Slashme 17:05, 23 January 2006 (SAST)

Testing Interwiki

Let's see if I can link to sen:FrontPage and w:Help

WTFG, Steve! This is awesome 1337 kewl. Joo R t3h r0xx0rZ!!!111eins eins11! --Slashme 09:30, 24 January 2006 (SAST)

Unfortunately, I can't see a way to auto-display the available list of interwiki options automatically, but there are actually about 160 auto-interwiki options (not including wikipedia for some reason though). I can look up and add interwiki solutions you want, just ask. FYI, you can also google:like this.

OK, riddle me this: Why, when I tried to do a Sensei's Library link on the main page (copied directly from here) did it think I was linking to Slovenian? It actually made a link on the sidebar called Slovenian (but written in Slovenian) linking to Sensei's. Dah. --Slashme 09:45, 24 January 2006 (SAST)

Lol. That's my fault. I modified the interwiki prefix from senseislibrary to sl, cos I thought the prefix was too long. But sl is an i18n prefix for slovenian. I'll change it to "sen" quick.

Infobox template

I found something useful in MediaWiki's Common.css. I'll try dumping it into SAGoClubs:Common.css and see what happens. --Slashme 12:33, 25 January 2006 (SAST)

OK, the .css experiments were pathetic failures, dunno why. But I just hacked the appropriate css directly into the template; that seems to have sorted it out. I'm not sure whethere that's an ugly hack that will return to bite us in the bum, or an acceptable way to solve the problem. --Slashme 13:12, 25 January 2006 (SAST)

This seems to be fine, since the templates are hidden from the page when you edit, besides the variables you set. Thanks for solving this for me (I'm a css dummy). --TheKro 08:44, 26 January 2006 (SAST)

Logo in 16 colours

Due to a graphics driver problem, I'm reduced to 640x480x16 this morning, so I thought I'd quickly check out what the page looks like. It's perfectly readable, and the icon looks fine (maroon bg, grey logo, white text)! --Slashme 10:50, 26 January 2006 (SAST)

User vs person

I think it's a sensible and valid distinction, and have updated accordingly. --Slashme 12:51, 10 February 2006 (SAST)

Suggestion thingy

Hmm, can't quite remember which template you're referring to, and must leave quickly, but will be in the lab this evening and will figure it out properly. And will also categorize the templates.

Something like {{welcome}} but with instead of welcome, something else. --Slashme 16:16, 10 February 2006 (SAST)

Check out Template_talk:Welcome-ip. This is da bomb.--Slashme 17:53, 11 February 2006 (SAST)

Rolling back

To do a rollback, bring up a diff between the versions you want to roll back, and you will get a rollback link on the top right. --Slashme 12:45, 23 February 2006 (SAST)
