8th South African Open Go Tournament
This tournament was originally scheduled for 28-29 October, but was held on 11-12 November 2000, at Westdene Recreation Centre.
The tournament was a 6-round MacMahon tournament, with 5.5 komi in even games, and 0.5 in handicap games. Handicap was determined as the difference of MacMahon score minus two. Japanese rules applied.

When
Saturday 11th November and Sunday 12th November
Where
Westdene Recreational Center, Park Lane South, Westdene.
Format
The tournament will be a 6 round MacMahon open to all players. The initial
MacMahon score of participants will be determined by their latest available rank
in the SAGA ranking record.
A bar will be determined at the appropriate place. Games above the bar will be
even games with 5 ½ points komi. Games below the bar will be played at a
handicap, where the handicap will be the difference in MacMahon score between
the paired players, minus two. Japanese rules will apply.
Time Limits
1 hour thinking time per player plus 15 moves for each 5 minute overtime period
per game.

Tournament Fees
SAGA Members: R40 (scholars R10; students R20)
Non-members: R50 (scholars R20; students R30)

Prizes
The following categories are recognized:
1) SA Open Champion (tournament winner) 2) Youth Champion
3) African Champion 4) Veteran Champion
Medals will be awarded for 1st , 2nd and 3rd places as well as a trophy for the
first place in each of the above mentioned categories.
Spot prizes
All players winning at least one game will be eligible for spot prizes.
Registration
Registration closes on Friday 10th November. Late registration on the day will
close at 9h00 sharp, no exceptions. In all cases tournament fees must be paid
before the registration closes on Saturday the 11th of November.
