Please renew your SAGA membership for 2018

This is a call for all SAGA members to renew their membership for 2018 as soon as possible. 2017 memberships have technically expired, but due to the late call will be honoured for an additional two weeks, until 30 April.

Please note that membership fees for 2018 have increased to R220.00, but discounts have been granted for full time tertiary students, to R110.00, and primary or secondary school pupils, to R55.00. Details for how to renew your membership are available on the SAGA general information page (see the section: Joining SAGA/renewing your membership).

New members are also welcome to join for 2018 now. Membership is required for participation in the national tournaments co-ordinated by SAGA (the SA Open, SA Closed, and the quarterly internet or league tournaments on KGS). Also, only members earn credit points to qualify to represent South Africa at various international tournaments. All members who have signed up or renewed before 30 April will additionally receive the members-only edition of the AGA newsletter, if they wish (if they do not wish to receive this newsletter, please opt out by mailing the membership secretary). Can all renewing their membership or applying for first time membership please email the membership secretary with their current club, preferred email address and optionally their cellphone number.

Due to problems in the past, memberships will only be considered if emails are sent to the membership secretary.

European Team Championship 2016/2017 Round Two Game Records

A couple of weeks ago the second round of the Pandanet Go European Team Championship 2016/2017 was played. South Africa, currently in the C League, faced Bulgaria. This time we managed a clean sweep, winning all four games. Andrew has reviewed his game, and Victor has kindly reviewed not only his own game, but Andrew’s review as well.

European Team Championship 2016/2017 Round One Game Records

A couple of weeks ago the first round of the Pandanet Go European Team Championship 2016/2017 was played. South Africa, currently in the C League, faced Lithuania, one of the stronger teams in the C League. There were some hard-fought, close games, and we managed a 2-2 result. Both Chris and Andrew have reviewed their games, and Victor has kindly reviewed not only his own game, but their reviews as well.

These games take place on average once every three weeks (schedule here) online on IGS. I have found that watching one or two of the games live gives one a much better feel for the game that really helps one understand the reviews, and this is a good way to help one improve.
