Andrew Wins All Four 2014 Internet Tournaments

The 4th Quarter Internet Tournament took place on Saturday. There were seven players, with Max and Chris only joining for the first two and last rounds respectively. The players were fairly diverse in terms of strength, so some games were replaced with teaching games. After the three rounds, Andrew emerged as the overall winner of the day. This means that this year Andrew has won all four of the internet tournaments. Well done to Andrew!

Andrew wins 3rd Quarter Internet Tournament

The 3rd Quarter Internet Tournament took place today. The 7 players were fairly diverse in terms of strength, with some games being replaced with teaching games. After the three rounds Andrew emerged as the overall winner of the day. Well done to Andrew!

2014 Candidates

This weekend the Candidates stage of the 2014 SA Closed took place. Saturday saw 8 players battle it out, with the top four moving on to Sunday. The top four from Sunday (John Leuner, Bob Gale, Andrew Davies and Chris Welsh) have qualified to take part in the final Contenders stage of the 2014 SA Closed, that will take place later this year.

Congratulations to James Nicolson, who was promoted to 2k due to his tournament performance.

Andrew wins 2nd Quarter Internet Tournament

In the second internet tournament of the year, that took place on Saturday, 10 players were online to participate. Well done to Paul and Peet who, due to their tournament performance, have been promoted to 2k and 9k respectively. After Round 2 the tournament took a break for the SAGA AGM, but once the day was done, Andrew Davies emerged as the overall winner, and Peet Brits as the winner of Group 2. Congratulations to Andrew and Peet!

Victor and Aki win Rengo Tournament

On Saturday the 2014 Rengo tournament took place, and three pairs participated this year. After three rounds, Victor and Aki emerged as the only pair to win all their games. Congratulations to Victor and Aki for winning the tournament.

3rd Quarter Internet Tournament Extends Andrew’s Winning Streak

Last weekend the 3rd Quarter SAGA Internet Tournament took place. At 9 players, the turnout was much better than the previous tournament. The games began around 09:30 and once the dust had settled, Andrew was on top with 3/3 wins. This is the second internet tournament in a row that Andrew has won. Results for the 2nd Quarter Internet Tournament are also included in this post. Congrats to Max Rabkin on his promotion to 5k. It is also worth noting that James Nicolson and Steve Kroon are on the brink of promotion and demotion respectively.

South Africa finish 28th in the 23rd International Amateur Pair Go Championship

On the 3rd and 4th of November, the 23rd International Amateur Pair Go Championship. There were 32 pairs that were invited, 11 from Japan and 21 from worldwide. South Africa was represented by Carle Joubert and Francois van Niekerk. The five rounds went as follows:

1: SA lost against a pair from Japan.
2: SA lost against the pair from Norway.
3: SA lost against the pair from Germany.
4: SA won against the pair from Ireland.
5: SA lost against the pair from Austria.

With the one win against Ireland, SA finished in 28th spot.

Andrew finishes 51st in 2012 KPMC

Andrew Davies has now finished in 51st place, with 3/6 wins, in the 2012 KPMC. The draw was done on the MacMahon system, using the previous years position. His results in the 6 rounds were:

  1. Lost to Argentina (3d)
  2. Lost to Venezuela (2d, but seemed stronger to Andrew)
  3. Beat Guatemala (6k).
  4. Beat Bosnia&Herzegovina (3k)
  5. Lost to Thailand (5d)
  6. Beat Ecuador (1d)
