The team for the World Mind Sports Games in Beijing this year has been finalised. We have managed to gather a contingent of 6 people because of additional sponsorships from the Japan Pair Go Association and from Chris Visser, for which we are most grateful. The team is as follows:
Victor Chow: Men’s Open
Chris Visser, Paul Edwards, Ben Gale: Men’s Individual
Carle Joubert, Julius Paulu: Mixed Pairs
The Men’s Open is an event open to everyone and is likely to attract some of the world’s strongest players. So we wish good luck to Victor. The Men’s Individual is open only to amateurs and should contain players that we can compete with, and probably a whole lot that we can not. The Mixed Pairs is a pair go competition (known to some as “rengo”) with what promises to be a strong field, so again we must wish good luck to the players.
The tournament runs through most of October, with the different events happening at different times. Other “mind sports” such as chess and checkers will be played simultaneously, with players staying together in “olympic village” style accommodation. It promises to be a lot of fun for the players and a successful and valuable competition.
