Once again, the regular Cape Town club venue, A Touch of Madness, was treated to the sight of the frantic pounding of Go boards. In contrast to the relaxed and reserved behaviour usually associated with Go player, 21 November 2006 was the 2nd annual Cape Town Blitz tournament.
Eight players, six rounds, and four clocks each set to sudden death of 12 minutes, and you had a recipe for incessent clock pounding, elevated pulse rates, and very little time for typical activies such as drinking beer.
At the end of an exhausting evening, the winner was…
…well…four players:
Chris Welsh, Konrad Scheffler, Rory Beling and James Gelant.
After winning his first four games, Chris lost the last two, allowing three other players to catch up. The tie-breaker rules did not allow for such a situation, and due to the lateness of the hour, it was decided to share the title between all four players.
