Game vs. pro

As a top 10 finisher in the “World of Korean Baduk” Quiz held by the Goama newsletter, I have won the chance to play in a 10-player simul game against the 1-dan Korean pro from Russia, Alexandre Dinerchtein. I’m totally excited about this – anyone who wants to come watch me get eaten for “breakfast” (his KGS nickname), can come watch me face him with 7 stones on Saturday, 3 June, at 5PM in the English Game Room (my KGS handle is thekro).

By the way, the weekly newsletter typically also includes a discussion of an unusual joseki variation (trick play), a link to the “most exciting game of the week”, and interviews with top pro’s.

Hmm – Chris pointed out that 4 June is a Sunday, not a Saturday. So I’m not sure which of the 2 it will be yet – I’ve mailed the organizer and will update the page as soon as I know. Sorry for any confusion.

Ok, the game is on Saturday 3 June.

    Baie geluk Steve.
    Sterkte met die game.

Wat gaan dit aan jou indexpunte doen as jy wen?

Kan jy uitvind hoe hy handicap games benader?
“Know thy enemy” en al daardie…

  4. Steve says:

    thanks, ben.

since it’s not a SA game, and it’s simultaneous anyway, the game won’t be ranked. And I don’t really have time to investigate his strategy in handicap go – I suspect it’s “complicate things like mad and outread your enemy” 😉
