Yashiro goes 1-0 in Female Honinbo

Yashiro Kumiko claimed a 1.5 point win against title defender Chinen Kaori in the first game of the 24th Female Honinbo title in Okinawa yesterday. The next game is on 6 October.

Plenty of news from Korea today:

In the Korean Pro Senior tournament, the defending champion Jang Sooyong was ousted by Kim Dongyeop, who won the deciding 3rd game of the final by resignation.

Rui Naiwei was eliminated by Mok Chin-seok in the Siptan tournament, losing by 1.5 points.

In the Ch’eonweon, the last semi-finalist in the challenger decision tournament has been decided: Kang Chi-seong (6d) defeated 2-dan Kim Daeyong by resignation to claim the last spot.

Today’s focus on the Korean Go scene is the start of the best-of-3 final in the KBS Cup: defending champion Yi Ch’ang Ho sent 9-dan Yu Ch’ang-hyeok to the loser’s section in the final of the winners’ section, and things seemed destined for a clash of the titans with his opponent to be decided by the winner of the losers’ section final: Pak Yeong-hun Gisung vs Yu Ch’ang-hyeok. However, it is Yu, not Pak (the favourite), who has proceeded to the final. So today’s big match in Korea: KBS Cup final, game 1: Yi vs Yu.
