Correction: This post has been corrected with the correct information now available on the Nihon Ki-in’s website. It seems I got the list while they were still editing it. So please reread…
After losing Round 3 to Jan Lubos from Poland, Ben recovered well to post 2 successive victories, first against Tjahyadi Lim Surya, the Indonesian representative, and then against the Spaniard Cesar Sanchez Munoz. Ben is currently placed 28th out of 65 countries, with the top 5 positions currently being occupied by China, Taipei, D.P.R. Korea, Japan’s Yasuro Kikuchi (who beat Ben in round 1), and Czechoslovakia, who is just fending off Hong Kong and Korea.
Some South Africans may also have a special interest in Cornel Burzo, who teaches on one of the Go servers: he is representing Romania, and is currently placed 29th (just behind Ben 😉 ).

Another interesting tit-bit is that the Korean representative, Jung-Hwi Seo has actually already achieved professional status, but will only start playing as a pro later in the year. He was still an amateur when he was registered as the Korean representative, though, so he has been allowed to take part in the tournament. (There is more info on this as part of Pieter Mioch’s series on the WAGC.)
