“There is a tournament on KGS (starting in 3 weeks) organised by some Chilean go players… It could be fun to play if you have the time. (I plan to play).”
The tournament is the second Iwamoto tournament, starting on May 26. To enter, you must have a confirmed rank on KGS, and the tournament is open to all ranks – there is one tournament game per week. The tournament is named for Iwamoto Kaoru, the author of ‘Go for Beginners’. He is also known as being one of the participants in the atomic bomb Honinbo tournament game played at Hiroshima in August 1945 – interestingly, despite this, he lived to the ripe old age of 97. Iwamoto was also one of the most active proponents of Go in the West, starting and funding a number of clubs in Europe, and North and South America.
