Western Go Ladder

I’ve added a link to the Western Go Ladder under the Go Servers section, although it’s not really a Go server. The Western Go Ladder is basically a bunch of leagues open to anybody, where winning games takes you into the higher leagues. Games are generally played on KGS, but you can make alternative arrangements with your opponent. For more information. check out the short summary on Sensei’s Library, as well as the Western Go Ladder site.

I have e-mailed the admin of the ladder, and he is eager for international participants – if you wish to participate, registration is free, and just use ZA for the state/province code.

Ooh, this looks nice! I would really like to join, but my experiences with KGS from the University network tells me I can only play while I am at home. The thing that bothers me about this is that it may be hard to organise a game if I can only play during e.g. weekends – especially since there are other people involved as well (when I’m visiting home…)

This means before I can really join a tournament, I must first figure out how to deal with the absurd lag. Do other people find high KGS lag on the network? I need to figure out where to start troubleshooting.

Hugo, please note that most players on the Western Go Ladder are American, so times which suit them for games on the weekend are typically not going to suit other people in your household for visiting (you do the maths).

As for the bad lag, I don’t know what causes it, and I have no experience playing games on KGS (have only used my account to obs before). Anyone else that can offer suggestions?
